The Basics
Hair extensions are strands or wefts of 100% human hair that are attached to your natural hair to add length, volume, or both. The professional methods Jewels specializes in — K-Tip, Hand-Tied Weft, and Beaded Weft — use human hair that has been collected, processed, and color-matched to blend seamlessly with your own.
Most people are — but not everyone, and not always right away. Jewels assesses every new client at a free consultation before booking an install. If your hair is too damaged, too short, or not dense enough for a safe install, she'll tell you and give you a realistic plan to get there. Extensions on unhealthy hair is always a bad outcome, which is why the consult isn't optional.
K-Tip: Individual strands bonded with keratin using a heat tool. Most natural movement, highest customization, 3–5 months between move-ups. Best for medium-thick hair wanting undetectable results. Hand-Tied Weft: Human hair wefts sewn by hand, attached with micro-beads. Zero heat, zero adhesive. Lies completely flat — ideal for fine hair or clients who wear their hair up. 8–12 week move-ups. Beaded Weft: Machine-sewn wefts attached with micro-beads. Faster install, more volume per row, works for almost every hair type. 8–12 week move-ups. Jewels recommends the right method at your free consultation based on your hair health, density, and lifestyle.
Yes — always. Extensions are a significant investment and a customized service. Jewels can't quote pricing, select a method, or order the right hair without seeing your hair in person. The consultation is 30 minutes and completely free. No commitment required.
Starting prices are: K-Tip from $800, Hand-Tied Weft from $700, Beaded Weft from $600. Final pricing depends on the amount of hair needed, which varies based on your hair density, desired length, and method. Jewels provides exact pricing at your free consultation before you commit to anything. There are no surprise charges on install day.
Hair Health & Safety
When installed and removed correctly by a certified stylist, professional extensions do not damage healthy hair. Damage occurs from: improper installation technique, skipping or delaying move-up appointments, attempting to remove extensions at home, or installing extensions on hair that wasn't healthy enough to begin with. Jewels is StrandSafe™ certified across all four levels — 11 certifications total — specifically because correct technique is everything.
Color-treated hair can typically still receive extensions, but Jewels assesses the integrity of each client's hair at the consultation. Highly processed, bleached, or damaged hair may need a treatment protocol before installation. She'll be honest about what your hair can handle and won't install on hair she doesn't believe is ready.
Yes — Hand-Tied Weft and Beaded Weft are specifically well-suited to fine or thin hair. These methods use no heat or adhesive, and the lightweight wefts don't add significant weight. K-Tip can also work for fine hair in the right placement. Jewels assesses density at your consultation and recommends accordingly.
Incorrectly installed or maintained extensions can cause traction alopecia — hair loss from sustained tension at the roots. This is why certification, correct placement, and staying on your move-up schedule matter enormously. Jewels places extensions with hair health as the primary consideration, not just aesthetics.
As your natural hair grows, extensions that aren't moved up begin to pull at the roots and can cause matting, tangling, and eventually breakage. Move-up appointments exist to prevent this. Jewels sends reminders when it's time to come in — and she'll always tell you honestly if something needs to be addressed.
The Process
Jewels examines your hair health, density, and growth patterns. She talks through your goals — length, volume, or both. She does a visual color match using extension samples. She recommends a method and the amount of hair needed. She gives you exact pricing. The whole appointment is about 30 minutes, and there's zero pressure or commitment involved.
K-Tip installs: 3–5 hours depending on amount of hair. Hand-Tied Weft and Beaded Weft: 2–4 hours. Jewels blocks your appointment for the full time needed — she never rushes an install.
Come with clean, dry, product-free hair. Avoid heavy conditioners or oils the day before. Wear a comfortable top you can take off over your head (not a pullover). Eat before your appointment — it's a long sit. Bring headphones if you'd like. Jewels will handle everything else.
Sulfate-free shampoo is non-negotiable — sulfates break down bonds and bead connections. Brush extensions from the bottom up using an extension-safe brush before washing. Sleep with hair in a loose braid or bun to prevent tangling. Avoid applying conditioner or oils directly to the roots or attachment points. Jewels provides a complete aftercare guide at your install appointment.
Yes to both. Human hair extensions can be washed, blow-dried, curled, and flat-ironed. Use a heat protectant, just as you would with your natural hair. K-Tip bonds are heat-set, so they're especially durable with styling. Jewels will walk you through specific guidance for your method at your appointment.
Maintenance
Hand-Tied Weft and Beaded Weft: every 8–12 weeks. K-Tip: every 3–5 months. These aren't arbitrary timelines — they're based on how much your natural hair grows and the point at which continued wear could cause tension. Jewels tracks your install and will reach out when it's time.
For Hand-Tied Weft and Beaded Weft: yes, in most cases. The hair is removed and re-attached at your move-up appointment. How long the hair lasts depends on how well it's been cared for at home. K-Tip hair can sometimes be reused if the bonds are still in good condition. Jewels assesses this at each move-up.
Sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner are essential. Avoid applying conditioner or heavy oils directly to the roots or attachment points. Use an extension-safe detangling brush. Jewels recommends specific products at your install based on your hair type and the method used.
Contact Jewels. Don't try to reattach it yourself. Depending on the method and how much time is left until your move-up, she'll either see you for a quick fix or note it for your next scheduled appointment.
